‘Caterina Jarboro was the first Black to perform with an American opera company. Jarboro was a featured performer in Aida on this date July 22, 1933. She also starred in Shuffle Along (1921) and Running Wild (1923). In more recent years, “Aida” was seen on Broadway in a Disney Production scored by Elton John and Tim Rice.’
